Substack has helped to create the consistency I needed to take the plunge and start doing what I've wanted to for most of my life. Today I published my first short story on the platform after a year of writing about my specialised topic: homeschooling.

That's amazing, Beverley! Congratulations on publishing your first short story. 🎉

Wishing you all the best as you continue exploring both topics. Here's to many more stories ahead!

Thanks for this masterclass on staying consistent.

I believe having the right expectations is the first important decision. (It's in your post, but easy to overlook). In no other endeavor do we expect quick results like we do when we are online. I would say give yourself a minimum one year of writing (with adjustments as needed).

The why is critical too, but it can change over time as you and your writing develop. So I try to hold it loosely.
