Very productive and manageable method, thank you for sharing it with us. I am definitely going to give it a try.

I really liked what you wrote about “inspiration coming from living life”, which is so true and we need to be reminded of that often. Sometimes, instead of sitting in front of computer and beating yourself up for not having any ideas or inspiration, we should just go for a walk- the world always provides unlimited inspiration.

Thank you for your kind words—I’m so glad you found the method helpful and plan to give it a try!

And yes, you’re absolutely right—sometimes stepping away and just living life is exactly what we need to recharge our creativity.

I’m looking forward to hearing how the method works for you! Cheers to more inspired days ahead. 😊

Frey thank you SO much for the mention! I will say if we all took engagement as seriously as you do, Substack would be an even better place for all of us.

Thank you so much for the deep dive in how you do Notes, it’s really interesting. I need to do a better job with Notes, so this is helpful. My ‘strategy’ right now is to write a Note either when I feel inspired to write one, or when I suddenly realize it’s been 2-3 days since my last Note! Not the best strategy I know!

Do you ever block out time to engage with other writers who haven’t engaged with you yet? I really don’t do this, but feel like I should. Just wondering if you do.

Thank you so much for sharing your methodology, Frey! You are so generous.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment, Mack! I always appreciate your insights.

When it comes to posting notes, I used to jot down ideas whenever inspiration struck, quickly polish them, and post right away. But since setting a goal of three notes a day, my approach has changed. Now, I generate at least two notes daily and store any extra ideas for later instead of posting them immediately. To stay consistent, I’ve made it a recurring task in my to-do list as a daily reminder.

That said, I don’t always hit the goal, and that’s okay—I just try not to miss two days in a row. I’ve noticed something interesting: when I consistently post notes, I generate more ideas naturally. But when I stop, it’s like the flow of ideas slows down, too. It’s a neat little cycle!

As for time blocking engagements, I don’t have a strict schedule for it. I usually handle the bulk of it during lunch breaks, before dinner, or in between tasks during downtime. Since engagement feels more like leisure than work to me, I prefer keeping it flexible rather than treating it as a rigid task. It makes the process more enjoyable—I just read, comment, and message people as I go. I hope this helps!

Thank you so much for sharing this system. There is a lot I learned and want to try such as messaging one other writer a day and posting notes spaced out during the day and making posts into notes :)

I love the random selector you have for your posts, what tool is that by the way?

Thanks for sharing that routine approach! Posting consistently is one thing (I do on LinkedIn for 7 years) but with Substack Notes is another story.

You're welcome, Gunnar and Thank you for the appreciation means a lot! 😊 Consistency is key, and it's great that you've been doing it for 7 years on LinkedIn! Substack Notes definitely has its own vibe, but once you get the hang of it, it can be a game-changer. Keep at it! 🚀

Obsession and addiction can turn into habits... (I write it usually with "z" at the end). Just posted my weekly LinkedIn episode #319. Yes, consistency is a thing! From that posting series I published a book like enhanced "best of". And that book helped me to overcome a corporate layoff bringing in 30X consulting $ over book sales...

Thanks! I mean this will make it look like a game. It would feel like a job. This was all I needed. Even though I am consistent for over 20 days, this way I could make it to years. I haven't read the post in detail, just a brief look, but it's amazing. I will apply the same.

Thank you for this, am bookmarking. I I just started a subscriber chat asking my free subs (I do not have any paid) a political question but don’t know how it works — will that show up in their feed or do they search for it? I guess I will see. Love your encouraging posts. Thank you again.
